Old Neighbours, New Friends - post St-Patrick's hangover..

They say it's more important to be on good terms with your neighbours than with your family. We agree!

Yesterday we got to spend time behind the scenes @ Ceili Cottage and help out with the festivities. Loyal fans waiting in line to get into the Cottage and braving the (not-so) cold enjoyed Bushmills whiskey-cream coffee and homemade shortbreads provided by yours truly.

And we watched as CBC and CP24 featured a proper Irish breakfast and filmed a troupe of Irish dancers that are soon to head off to compete at world championships!

Overall a lucky day, indeed!

Guess what we made today!

Pam & Liako bought a new toy.

A fun toy.

A toy where Pam & Liako can be like all creative and stuff and make things and maybe sell them for like cheap and... and if you wear what we make you can be like all cool and stuff as you walk...no, wait, STRIDE down the street! ...yeah...striiide...

*insert BeeGees music here*

We have a button maker!
...and we made about three hundred and fifty (350) buttons today. whew!

While they'll be available at our stores for a measly $1 (covering our costs) we WILL be giving them out tomorrow evening (or this evening if you're reading this on Thursday, March 17th...or last night if you're reading this on Friday) @ The Ceili for St. Patrick's Day.

The fun never stops.

Really.

Is it time for a nap yet?

Fun @ The Ceili...and more to be had Thursday night!

So Pam, Dave, and I (Liako) ventured out to the Ceili Cottage for Industry Night where oyster shucking contests were abound every half hour or so. Who won? We did! With the spoils of the competitions.
Oysters, anyone?
Great live music by the CeiliGrass Boys.
For libations Pam had a Pinot Noir followed by a Guinness, of course, Dave had a great Irish beer they had on tap (I had a sip....mmmm) and I faithfully had a delicious mug of "We Have Lift Off" coffee (provided by yours truly, Red Rocket Coffee...official supplier of yummy coffee goodness to the Ceili Cottage [yes, a shameless plug, I know] with a generous pour of Jameson Irish Whiskey.

I was happy.

Hey, look out for us @ The Ceili Thursday morning where CP24 will be broadcasting live.
We'll be the ones taking care of coffee stuff (really just an excuse to be around the cameras).
We'll also be taking care of those poor souls waiting in line to get into the festivities of The Ceili and the ensuing mayhem of St. Patricks Day. RRC's Lift Off coffee will be offered with a healthy dollop of whipped cream lovingly mingled with Irish Cream syrup (scandalously tainted with Bushmills X...maybe...if you're good). Served, for your entertainment, by our very own Jonny (consider yourselves warned...no, really).

A good time shall be had by all!

What did you say is coming out of the oven?

We often hear that reaction from our customers...especially on Fridays. For the past couple of months, Liako and I have been dedicating time every Friday to creating new products. In general, we are quite successful with our creations, but then there's the odd time where we just have to wonder what we were thinking!

Last week, we ventured into kitschy, gimmicky territory. You see, our breakfast empanadas have been such a huge success, we decided to develop lunch empanadas - a nice alternative to a sandwich. Always trying to keep things interesting, we are.

The first oddity of the day was a Chef Boyardee raviloi and meatball empanada. Yeah...it's weird, but have you ever seen it before? I think not! This was the strangest of them all. Pasty pasta inside a puff pastry. In fact, I think I said "ewww" after biting into this.

Our second experiment fared a bit better - Kraft Dinner with sliced hot dogs. Also a bit odd, but this one had potential. We re-worked the recipe to include some premium sharp Cheddar and a few other secret ingredients. It's now totally edible! No, really, it's actually quite yummy. Look for it on our menu in the coming days.

Lastly, we have the franks 'n beans empanada. Interesting, yes. Tasty, yeah. Strange, for sure. Will the masses embrace it? Probably not. This one's just too outside-the-box for the average consumer.

What's happening this Friday, you ask? Who knows? Stay tuned for more crazy creations from the Red Rocket kitchen.
